Day 1, Viseu to Almargem
Thanks for your message Rosanne. Appreciated.
Sunday, 4 May
We started our first day of walking just after 9.30 am in the rain, wearing 4 layers. Stopped for a coffee after 3 kms and began reducing the layers.
It rained most of the day sometimes quite heavily. In each of the forest sections we were having to pick our way around the large puddles, at one time climbing over a stone wall into a field was the only option
Towards the end of the day we were walking on the old Roman road which was interesting. It came to an abrupt end at a small cliff and we knew we had missed a turning. Backtracked a little and found the arrow.
There was a festival in Almargem when we arrived, very busy. We had prearranged to have dinner at the only restaurant in Almargem otherwise we could have eaten at the festival. We were joined by Fernando and Francesca from Canary Islands. Loud music very close to our albergue until midnight. Thank goodness for earplugs.
15.5 kms.
