Sunday and Monday 15th

Hired a car from Liverpool and drove down to Patrick's and Emma's.  Emma cooked us a lovely Sunday lunch and we exchanged our suitcases for our packs and headed down to Crawley close to Gatwick. Stayed the night at Trivelles Waterhall country hotel right under the flight path so a little noisy and why it was cheap. However we slept well and headed for the airport early. We are getting good at finding isolated spots at crowded airports to keep our distance.

Arrived in A Coruna at 4.30 pm and had no problems thanks to our excellent NZ International vac passes. Not all countries so fortunate.

Caught a bus to the city centre bus station (1Euro 50) and decided to walk the 3.8 kms to our hotel as we hadn't walked far today. Shouldered our packs and set off using Google maps which worked well. We hadn't walked far when we realised it was quite a few hours since we had eaten and we were feeling a little faint. Stopped at a cafe for dos cafe con leche and a yummy pastry. It's so good to be back in Spain!

Hotel Francisco Javier is a 1 star hotel but room is excellent. €55 a night and fairly spacious with queen sized bed and single bed in an alcove. The WC and shower are in a closet in the room and the hand basin in another closet. The term 'water closet' is very apt here.

Found a great tapas bar round the corner, Santaya. Pretty much all locals apart from us and a couple of camino cyclists. A few tables of patrons playing cards while they enjoyed their drinks and tapas together with lots of football watchers. A taste of the local culture and very reasonable prices. It was busy with staff rushed off their feet but very hospitable. By the time we left just before 9 pm it was fairly quiet.

    1. Thanks Chris and Greg. Been raining this morning but sun is out now. This area is in drought with strict water restrictions so the rain is good.
