Pontedeume to Betanzos 18km

Sunday 21st August

Left our hotel at 7.30 am. The owners had mentioned that breakfast was from 7 am but all was quiet. Perhaps because it is Sunday. We set off and had breakfast at around 9 am at cafe Ultreia y Suseia.

We stopped again at Cafe Navada in Viñas then carried on until the church of St Martin where we took a rest break.

We arrived in Betanzos at 2.30 and had some trouble finding our accommodation. Google maps was not helpful today.

The walk today was through more countryside than towns which makes it more enjoyable. Some photos from on the way.

The bridge at Lambre. Site of the romantic  legend of the servant Roxín Roxal who fell in love with his master's daughter Teresa. Roxín was exiled and Teresa betrothed by her father to the knight Henrique. To impress her Henrique fought a wild boar on this bridge but only wounded the beast who then killed Teresa. Some days later the body of the boar was found on the bridge killed with a dagger belonging to Roxín.

This Teresa survived but there was no wild boar today luckily.

Today's walk.
Stayed at Apartment Turistico. 70 euro

A bit of a challenge when lost at the end of a hot tiring day.

  1. Loved the Roxin story and I can relate to the frustration of being lost when you’re tired. Hiking on my own I was lost 2 hrs in the Yorkshire Dales as I misunderstood the multi forked lane I was meant to take. Great to have had Steve lost with you . Safe travels

    1. A mystery comment but we think we can guess who. I loved the Roxín story too. A lesson for men who want to decide things for women.👍 Teresa

    1. The cold beer at the end of each days walk and being away from NZ winter is great. The uphill road walks in the afternoon not part of the dream. Dad

  4. Good to see you had your Leki sticks with you in case that boar decided to make a reappearance. Hope google maps is kinder to you for the rest of your journey. Chris & Greg xx

    1. Didn't need Google maps today thankfully. Usually don't as the waymarkers are every 200 metres or so and at every turning. Betanzos had very confusing streets with mostly no names. Google would say 1 minute away then immediately switch to 47 minutes away. Grrr.
