Day 5, Salas to La Espina
Monday, 7 September, 8.2 km
We decided on a late start this morning as we are both a bit weary. Breakfast was included at the hotel which was a nice surprise. After a trip to the supermarket for kiwi fruit and a block of almond chocolate for Father's Day, and the farmacia for supplies we started out a 10 am.
A very pleasant walk today, climbing for the first 6 km but through woods of oak and Chestnut trees so very shady. Very small section of road walking but even that was mostly shady. There were very well constructed park benches along the way, very unusual to have this on camino. Also the high today was 24° which is cooler than the last five days.
At noon we stopped at a zona de relax, a rest stop provided by a local, with sellos (stamps) for credentials and cold drinks for a donation. Such is the hospitality on the Camino. It was only a short way to our albergue in La Espina, a very well organised place where so far everything has been perfect. Dinner tonight and breakfast is provided, as well as a towel for showering and our laundry done for us.😊 Bottom bunks provided at our request in room of four.
After our showers we went into the town and had a light lunch, soup and bread for Steve and an ensalada for me. A delicious salad of lettuce, tomato, mild onions, tuna, olives and, the surprise, white asparagus. Very fresh and yum. Tinto vino with the meal and cafe con leche to follow. Now an afternoon rest and dinner at 7 pm.
A restful day and just what we needed.
Another short day tomorrow to Tineo. We are really enjoying ourselves and coping well. The feet are good and the knees better than normal - the blessing of the Camino.
I was attempting to show the steepness of the walk today but it hasn't come out very well.
Approaching La Espina, (translation: the thorn)

Wonderful photos. Sounds as though you are both having a great time. All well in our neck of the woods. Sending love and enjoy every minute. ❤️
