Day 1 of Primitivo Camino, Oviedo to Escampiero

 Thursday 3 September 2026

We left our hotel at 8.30 am and had no trouble following the Camino signs and arrows to leave town. The weather is good with a 30° high forecast for the afternoon.

The way today was a mixture of woodland paths and road walking, a bit up and down but very manageable.

We had a good breakfast at our hotel, well I did. Steve had a bad reaction to the mussels we had for dinner the night before. He did very well to get through the 11.7 kms with just water and some biscuits as the only cafe we passed was closed.

We arrived at El Tendejon de Fernando pension in Escampiero before 1 pm. I had the specialty of the Casa for lunch, bean stew with kale and potatoes and chunky meat and sausage. I was expecting it to be vegetarian. Steve only managed a racion of patatas. Hopefully he will be able to eat tonight.

Laundry done and now relaxing. Photos from today follow.

Chapel of St Carmen, where we got our first sello (stamp) in our credential. The following photo shows the donation basket in baby Jesus care.😊
