Day 9

Tomar to Alvaiazere

Rather than walk 33.2 kms we have decided to bus the first two thirds to Tojal.
The earliest bus we could get was at 2.15 pm. Our plan is to get off at Tojal and walk the green route to Alvaiazere, looks about 12 kms but the book doesn't specify. Plans could change depending on the weather.

The Festa dos Tabuleiros is held each summer in Tomar. The women wear smaller versions of this on their heads in procession.

Above photos from our walk around town this morning. Temperature was around 14° expected high of 23.

Interesting paintings from the lounge in our pension.

Photos from the walk to Alvaiazere follow:

We stopped for a lemonade and a white chocolate magnum at cafe Grelhados. They seem to be into their football, there were banners hanging everywhere. Spotted a Liverpool one and a Man.United. sorry Aidan no Arsenal banner.
Olive trees, lots through this area.
A cork tree, recently stripped. Also lots of walnut trees.

The roundabout, called rotundas here, near our albergue, O Bras.

15.5 kms walked today. A misty start to the day but a lovely day in the end.

Nice Pilgrim meal provided of soup, roast chicken, salad and thick cut potato chips and a carafe of red wine. Pudding was offered but we were replete. €14 each.

We have paid €37.50 for a nice double room with own bathroom and balcony.
