Day 7
Villa Nova Barquina to Tomar, 8 October. 17 kms walked.
Once we left the town of Villa Nova Barquina the Camino path was through a eucalyptus forest for 6.5 kms. There was a lot of wild thyme growing along the path, a pleasant fragrance. It had rained during the night so parts of the walk were fairly muddy. An enjoyable walk all the same.
Stopped for a coffee in Asseiceira, followed by an ice cream. Asseiceira is a nice small town.
From there we walked a further 4 km to the railway station at Santa Cita. Bought tickets online - a torturously long process, one of the questions being how many sons I had and each of their dates of birth. No interest in how many daughters. Sorry boys but I denied having any sons to make the form filling quicker. Train fare €0.80 each.
Caught the train into Tomar where we are staying two nights as there is lots to see. Dinner at the Republic Hotel, a step up from our usual dinners. Robyn and Jeff going on. We'll catch up later.
