A day in Tomar
Wednesday 9 October
A day off walking today. Only 7 kms walked around town. We spent the morning exploring part of Tomar.
We also booked bus tickets for tomorrow so that we will only walk about 10 kms from Tojal into Alvaiazere where we will spend the night.
Looking up to the Castle walls.Photos of the church of S.Francisco:
So many of the pavements have the Templar symbol set into them.
Photos from our afternoon walk up to the Castle and to the Convento de Cristo:

Clothes from the 16th century.
The friars garden.
The refectory, tables circa 1900s.
We stopped at the Castelo cafeteria, at 3 pm, for a glass of wine and some quiche before heading down to the town where we met some cyclists from Oregon at the Gelatomania. Also caught up with Lydia from Barcelona there too. Always good to see people again on the Camino. Hopefully we will see Aloysius from Slovenia and Chris from Alaska tonight too as we hear they are in Tomar.
Went to 6.30 pm Mass at the church of St John Baptist in the square. A very good small choir and a cantor who sang the psalm. Impressive for a weekday Mass. Lovely church and good sized congregation.
Dinner at a Sicilian restaurant, hamburgers accompanied by mushroom risotto and fresh salad. Delightful.
