We watched the Com games cycle road racing just near Lemington Spa on Sunday 7 August that Aaron Gate from N Z won . His 4th gold medal from that particular Comm games. Did wonder if you might have been out on the street watching it as well.
Easter Sunday to 2 May Meeting Aidan outside Paddington station at the Wild Table of Love. We spent two good days in London with Aidan, did a lot of walking through Little Venice canals to Regents Park and a big loop back to Paddington on Easter Monday. Notting Hill for dinner. Tuesday Aidan took the day off and we walked from his place in Whitechapel along Grand Union Canal to Broadway Market for lunch then underground to Trafalgar square and National gallery. Dinner with Aidan at our hotel Montcalm in Paddington. Wednesday train up to Leamington Spa for Patrick's birthday dinner. Drove up to Garstang on Friday, party on Saturday night which was lovely. Nice to catch up with some of Emma's wider family and meet many more. Great band with great lead singer with plenty of energy and engagement with party goers, lovely Lancashire supper and late night just when we were getting past the jet lag. Sunday Mass with Peter and Shelagh and a relaxing day with lunch at a pub by the can...
We begin walking the Portuguese Interior Camino on Sunday morning, hopefully quite early as rain is forecast for later in the day. In the meantime will add extra photos here. The above photos are from the Church of Misericordia which faces across the square opposite the cathedral. View from Cathedral square The three photos above are of the Cathedral We spent some time at the Museum of Misericordia which is part of the church of the same name. There was a good section on the revival of Gregorian chant in Portugal. View from museum window Terracotta depiction of The descent of Jesus from the cross. A Portuguese artist's impression of the Assumption. On our way to buy fruit and avocado, tomatoes and rolls for lunch.
Wednesday, 14 May We were intending this to be our final day of walking but we decided this morning that we couldn't face the thought of wading through another 20 or so large cold muddy puddles. Although the day was fine we know those puddles take a long time to dry out. So we caught the bus to Chaves, a lovely city. It is a shame we did not complete our planned walk as we were feeling fit and well and Vidago to Chaves is not a difficult section. However, we have done our best and are very pleased to have achieved as much as we have. After our experience with the cold days and puddly paths we would recommend September as a better time for the Portuguese Interior Camino. Today's photos are of Chaves. Discovered after I took the photo that these are all fake 🤥. It's obvious now I know. Tomorrow we leave Portugal and bus to Ourense in Spain, then train to Zamora and bus to Salamanca where we will have two nights. Back to Santiago de Compostela on Saturday for our flight to Lo...

ReplyDeleteYes we had our NZ flag over the barrier and they whizzed past very quickly with a New Zealander in the lead, presumably Gates. Great result.
