Day 2 Povoa de Vazim to Esposende 20 km

As we are both still a bit on N Z time we are going to bed early and waking early, so we left at 6.45 today and hoped to avoid the hotter part of the day.

The route followed the beach along boardwalks for the first 4km.
This area has a unique agricultural strip just off the shoreline  These masseiras (troughs) have been dug into the sand to protect the vines and vegetables from wind and salt air and trap warm air creating microclimates. Seaweed is harvested dried and used as fertilizer and conditioner to build up the sand into large areas for growing produce. An interesting operation.

The expected cafe for morning coffee was still closed when we passed and the small towns were not named along the early part of todays walk  so we ended walking till about 11.00 before a stop. This section was frustrating as the signs were not always well marked.(A bit like life sometimes it's easy to know you are on the right path and other times the signs are not so clear and need searching for)
We were getting hot and weary so we took a long stop for coffee, sandwiches and a beer.
Refreshed we walked the last 6.4km to reach Esposende about 1.30 where we will stay the night at Esposende guesthouse €26 for two nice facilities bunk beds 4 person room. Showered rested and refreshed we had dinner at a small Italian place. Hope for an early start again tomorrow.
Temperature high of 31 today. We were lucky to finish walking while it was 26 degrees!
